What we added, improved and fixed in Gloss, newest first.
Word sets for IELTS, TOEIC and business, and export to Anki
New
Word sets: words picked for a goal. 12 IELTS topic sets (environment, education, work, health, Writing Task 1 and Task 2…), plus TOEIC, academic and business words, each split into sets of up to 200. A set shows how many of its words you’ve met and the next five to learn. Try it
Pin a set to Today with “Show on Today”: Today shows your progress in it, and the new-words step of Today’s session teaches its next five words. After a New words round, “Next 5 from …” carries on with the set.
Word pages say which word sets the word is in, and search finds the sets: try “ielts environment” or “toeic”.
“Switch the conditional” on the four conditional lessons: answer “Could it really happen?” and “When?” and one sentence changes through the zero, first, second, third and mixed conditional, with the verb forms that change highlighted. Try it
“On the timeline” in the present perfect vs past simple lesson: pick a time expression (in 2019, since 2020, never, just, for two years, then left…) and the tense follows it, while a timeline shows a finished moment, a period up to now, or some time before now. Try it
Your own cards: in Your collection, “Add a card” for a word or phrase from class, work or a show, or “Import” a list (paste it, or a CSV or Anki file). They’re reviewed like the rest of your cards and sync to your account. Try it
Export your collection: “Export” in Your collection saves the cards in the current view as a file for Anki or as a spreadsheet (CSV), with the meaning, the Vietnamese and an example. Try it
Improved
Every word in the library has now been through our teacher review: about 1,900 more words join Today’s new words and the word sets (TOEIC now has about 1,000 words, business English about 1,550), with better collocations, examples and mistakes to avoid. Try it
All 9,600 short word pages (the ones you reach by tapping a word in a reading or your own text, or from search) have been checked: meanings now match how people use the words (wait, code, traffic, novel), wrong translations are fixed, and examples use American English. Try it
Some more words now warn about a mistake Vietnamese learners often make with them, such as “listen to podcasts”, “translate into English” and “a historic day”.
Reminders back off when you take a break: daily for the first three days, then on day 7, 14 and 30, and then they stop until you come back.
Fixed
Word pages open again: for a while today every word page showed “This page couldn’t load”. Try it
Your collection: everything you're learning in one place
New
Random word and Random idiom on every word and idiom page: tap it and a quick shuffle spins through the list before landing on your next word. Try it
Your collection lists every word, idiom, phrase, collocation and phrasal verb you’ve added to review, plus the words you marked “I know this word”. Each one shows how long your memory of it holds, when it comes back and how often you’ve forgotten it. Filter by type or status (Not started, Learning, Remembered, Paused), search, sort by “Needs work”, and pause or remove anything you don’t need. Open it from Review: “See your whole collection”. Try it
The dictionary grew by about 4,100 words: 267 new full entries (flute, dowry, honeymoon, wilderness…), checked by our teacher review and now among Today’s new words; 1,400 short entries for words you meet on word pages, like socialism, warfare and archaeological; and 2,000 everyday words people say all the time, like father, kitchen, birthday, coffee, sunflower and armchair. Later the same day, 500 more: modern words like smartphone, selfie, chatbot and e-commerce, and words from the news like hypertension and bandwidth. 9 in 10 related words on a word page now open their own page. Try it
Improved
Almost every word under Word family, Similar and Opposite now opens its own page: 1,250 new short entries for words like connected, convincing, spending and savings, and “things” now opens thing. 179 IELTS and TOEIC words have a full page with examples and collocations, from dementia, embargo and latitude to phishing, troubleshoot and keynote. Try it
Meanings that fit the reading, IELTS Part 2 and a Share button
New
About 830 new words for IELTS and TOEIC, each with pronunciation, examples and collocations: office and travel words like memo, voucher, reschedule and reimbursement, essay topics like landfill, obesity, urbanization and burnout, and the science words of IELTS reading passages like photosynthesis, sediment and erosion. They were checked by our teacher review and now also turn up among Today’s new words. Try it
IELTS Speaking Part 2: 24 “Describe…” cards. Take one minute to plan with notes, talk for two minutes while Gloss records you, then listen back. Your recording never leaves the page. Try it
“Casual to formal” on Phrases: put three ways of saying the same thing in order, from casual to formal. Try it
A Share button on word and idiom pages opens your phone’s share sheet, or copies the link.
Search finds “Words people mix up” pages: try “affect effect” or “make do”.
Improved
Tap a word in a reading and the card adds its everyday meaning when the word page teaches a less common one: “We sat on the ground” now shows “More often (noun): the surface of the earth that you walk on”. The word page shows it too.
Tap “rose” or “found” and the card also says “Also the past of rise” (or find), with a link.
About 1,150 everyday words used in the readings were checked again, and around 300 meanings now match how the readings use them: watch is the verb, book is the noun, minute is a unit of time.
“Is it natural?” answers about 8 times faster. Try it
Practice pages open faster from the menu: Gloss starts loading a page as soon as you point at it.
Collocations “By word” loads about a fifth of the data when you search or scroll. Try it
Fixed
With two Gloss windows open, study time is no longer counted twice.
AI feedback (Is it natural?, translation, paraphrase and Talk it through) says “The AI is busy” much less often: when one connection to the AI fails, Gloss quietly tries another.
Read your own text, check your vocabulary size, install Gloss
New
Your text: paste any English text, tap a word for its meaning, and save it with the sentence you met it in. Gloss shows how many of the words you know and can colour them by status. The text stays on your device. Try it
Once Gloss is installed, share a passage from your browser or a news app to Gloss and it opens in Your text.
How many words do you know? A four-minute check with 40 words from B1 to C2. Mark the words you know, and New words won’t teach them again. Try it

Paused cards and the “Typing cards” setting now follow you to your other devices.
Your mistakes, known words and “Use it” sentences are no longer lost when you have a lot of them.
If Gloss can’t save to your account, it tells you and tries again, and signing out never deletes unsaved progress.
On a shared device, the next person no longer sees your session, your searches or your reminders.
The “Fix N mistakes” step only counts mistakes the drill will ask, so Start no longer gets stuck.
Today’s session refreshes after 4 am even if Today is still open, and the review step counts the cards you did earlier in the day.
Your streak is the same in Review, emails and notifications.
